Most of us carry a file. Not enough. Too far gone. Too late. Unforgivable. Sometimes other people write the charges, and often we write them ourselves, and the world around us is quick to file them and slow to drop them. The back of this hoodie is a court order from a higher bench: IN THE COURT OF HEAVEN, Case No. ROM 8:1. Four charges, each struck through by hand. One red stamp across the page: NO CONDEMNATION. Romans 8:33-34 is set as the findings and Romans 8:1 as the ruling, and the judge’s line is signed with the passage’s own words: It is God who justifies.
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. … Who could bring a charge against God’s chosen ones? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
Romans 8:1, 33-34, World English Bible
The context. Romans 8 comes right after Paul’s honest confession in chapter 7 that he keeps doing the thing he hates. He doesn’t answer it with a pep talk. He answers it with a verdict: there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. By the end of the chapter he stages it as a courtroom. Who could bring a charge? The judge is the one who justifies. The only one who could condemn is the one who died, was raised, and now speaks for us. The plaintiff on the caption is the accuser, the name Revelation 12:10 gives the one who brings charges against God’s people; the defendant is you. The labels in the file are real feelings. They are not the ruling.
- NO CONDEMNATION stamp on the chest; the full court order, Romans 8:1 and 8:33-34, on the back
- 430 gsm (12.7 oz/yd²) heavyweight cotton blend (56.44% cotton, 43.56% polyester)
- Relaxed, oversized fit with a front pouch pocket, cozy hood and snug ribbed cuffs
