“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more. The first things have passed away.””
Revelation 21:4, World English Bible
The lie it answers: “Grief gets the last word.” Loss feels final. Revelation 21:4 doesn't skip the grief; it ends it. God himself wipes the tears, one person at a time, and the list of what's coming to an end is long: death, mourning, crying, pain.
The context. Revelation 21 opens with a new heaven and a new earth and the holy city coming down from God, and a voice saying God will live with his people. Verse 4 is the promise to anyone who has cried. It was written to suffering believers, and it is the gentlest verse in the book.
