The Holy Family on the road into Egypt, Joseph leading the donkey, Mary holding the child. Under them, Leviticus 19:33-34, marked by hand: “love him as yourself” circled in red, “you lived as foreigners” underlined in red. The headline is lifted from verse 34.

“If a stranger lives as a foreigner with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. The stranger who lives as a foreigner with you shall be to you as the native-born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you lived as foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh your God.”
Leviticus 19:33-34, World English Bible

The context. Leviticus 19 is the chapter that says to love your neighbor as yourself. Fifteen verses later God widens the circle on purpose: the foreigner living among you is to be treated as the native-born and loved the same way. The reason given is memory. Israel had been the outsider in Egypt, and God expected that to make them kind. Centuries later, Matthew tells of Joseph taking Mary and the child Jesus by night into Egypt, out of reach of a king who wanted the boy dead. For a season the Son of God's family were the strangers in someone else's land, and Egypt took them in. That is the engraving on the back. The companion to AMEND: not a policy, a command with a memory attached.

  • THE STRANGER chest hit on the front, the engraving and Leviticus 19:33-34 on the back
  • 350 gsm loose fleece quarter-zip sweatshirt in a light color (sage, cream or grey) with forest-green ink
  • Loose fit; size down for a closer fit
  • Women's sizing S to XL; see the size chart in the photos
  • Care: wash cold inside out, tumble dry low or hang dry, don't iron the print
